Jack is originally from West Yorkshire but has lived in Edinburgh since he was 18 when he moved to the city to study. After stints in London and Berlin working in commercial photography he moved back to Scotland with the plan to open a bookshop. He mostly reads contemporary fiction and tries to spend as much time in the Highlands as possible.
Alice moved from France to the UK in 2014, and has been calling Edinburgh home for the past three years. She worked at Blackwell's Social Sciences department before joining the Portobello Bookshop team. Passionate about world literature, she also likes bookbinding, live music, campfires and collecting house plants.
Sarah Barnard is originally from the Midlands, where she worked in public libraries before moving to Edinburgh to study for a masters in publishing. She joined the Portobello Bookshop team in June 2019 after a couple of years working for Scottish independent publishers. Sarah likes reading YA, singing, and talking about swimming in the sea.
Niamh Anderson is a History graduate from the University of Edinburgh, where she was Editor-in-Chief of The Student newspaper and worked in a pie shop. She now spends her time reading women's writing, researching women’s lives, and buying more books than she sells.
Joe has been a bookseller since the early 1990s, regularly reviewing books and graphic novels, and chairing events at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
