The second volume of a three-volume autobiography, the first one being "The Tongue Set Free". This work uses as a framework Canetti's admiration for his mentor Karl Kraus, and his passion for his first wife, Veza, as well as incorporating a portrait of Vienna and Berlin in the 1920s.
