Wheelchair Access

We have a portable ramp available at the front of the shop and a bell to let us know if you require to use it. It has a ratio of 1:10 and so should be able to be used by most wheelchair users or those with mobility vehicles. Early in the process of renovating our shop we looked at trying to turn the front step into a ramp, but due to complications that would have required extensive remodelling of the shop front we were unable to alter the building structure. We try to leave the ramp out as much as possible and are liaising with the council to find a solution. The ramp will always be out before and during events to allow easy access.

Our shop interior is designed to allow access throughout for wheelchair users and prams.

We have a hearing loop under the counter and are able to use this at anytime should you require it. If you wish to attend an event and require BSL interpretation, please give us a few weeks notice and we’ll do our best to arrange an interpreter.

We sometimes play quiet background music, usually light classical or jazz, in the shop. One of our team suffers from severe tinnitus and this helps distract from it, but we are more than happy to turn it off whenever requested to do so.

We have a staff toilet, which can be used by customers on request, although please note the doorway to access this is only 700mm wide.

All our events are seated, but if there is particularly high demand for an event, latecomers may be required to stand.  It’s best to arrive early or let us know in advance if you require a chair when attending an event. Most of our events charge a fee, which varies depending on the event, writer or artist, staffing and refreshment costs and our overheads. We have to be able to cover the cost of events in order to continue presenting them.
