Daido Moriyama – Record 2 cover

This book is a continuation of Daido Moriyama's artistic journey, showcasing a selection of his work from the magazine Record published from 2017 onward.

The sequel to a celebrated photobook, Daido Moriyama – Record 2 showcases a remarkable collection of photographs from the renowned Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama. This volume features a curated selection of images and texts from his magazine publication, originally launched as Record in 1972. Moriyama's work has continually evolved, and this book serves as a testament to his artistic journey and the evolution of his visual language over the years.

Between June 1972 and July 1973, Daido Moriyama created his own magazine, Kiroku, which later became known as Record. This publication acted as a diary for Moriyama, documenting his artistic development. After a hiatus, the magazine was revived in 2006, thanks to the encouragement of publisher Akio Nagasawa. The first thirty issues were compiled into a classic photobook in 2017, establishing a significant milestone in Moriyama's career.

Daido Moriyama – Record 2 continues this legacy, presenting images and writings from issues thirty-one to fifty. As Moriyama approaches his eighties, this collection may mark the conclusion of his prolific output. Nevertheless, the essence of his unique style remains intact, characterized by striking contrasts and complex compositions that encapsulate the vision of one of photography's most influential figures.

'Filled with anecdotes about figures from his past, his philosophy as a photographer, and his reflections on both his craft and culture ... Moriyama reveals that Record isn’t just a vessel for photographing the world, but a driving force too' - Creative Review
'This is a book marinated in memories, autumnal in tone ... Yet the ghosts of old Tokyo in Record still linger. Moriyama’s reverie-rich prose, his commitment to stalking the city, his willingness – his need – to keep logging its moods and motions, continues to mesmerize' - World of Interiors
'The master street photographer is back ... offering viewers Moriyama's perspective of life more often than not from the streets' - Digital Camera World
'Harsh monochrome, a no-holds-barred look at modern-day Japan, with gritty urban scenes and raw street photography … one not to be missed' - Amateur Photographer
