Logos Volume 229 cover

Using the poetry of the people and the language of the streets, Gil Fagiani brings to life the world of addiction and treatment -- with the tumultuous 1960s as background. Fagiani tells the story of Logos, a heroin treatment center in South Bronx -- not as an outsider looking in but as one of the residents seeking a way to escape his own addiction. Both harsh and hard-hitting, Fagiani doesn't hold back in presenting the bitter truths as well as the glimpses of hope shared not just by addicts but by all humans in times of crisis. Lessons that have served him well in life.

This collection is full of lyrical grit. As Fagiani says in one poem: Theres no reverse in a hearse. And there is absolutely no reverse in Logos, as the author takes us on a wild ride through the streets of New York and into a world of pushing and hustling that pulls the reader in from beginning to end. -- Jose B. Gonzalez, Ph.D., editor of LatinoStories.Com
Gil Fagianis cargo of unforgettable characters and their intimate narratives smack you with a language of the street that moves with a rhythm and grace, and then shifts to knock you down. He holds nothing back and, along with the pain, the sins, and redemption, you will discover a poet of immense passion and a man of great courage. -- Gianna Patriarca, writer/poet with 9 published books
I have never read anything like Logos. In the American tradition, I can think of E. A. Robinson and Edgar Lee Masters who tried similar things, but with nothing like the vividness, immediacy, humor, and pain that I find in Fagiani's writing. His poems, to put it briefly, exude reality in startling ways. -- Frank Lentricchia, author of The Dog Killer of Utica
