About Jane Austen Children's Stories:

From the gardens of Pemberley to the spooky halls of Northanger Abbey, join some of literature's most iconic heroines on their path to self-discovery and true love. An adaptation of Jane Austen's famous stories, illustrated to introduce children aged 7+ to the classics.

Absolutely delightful! Pride and Prejudice is a classic among classics, and Gemma Barder has adapted this work beautifully. The story is familiar, and returning to Longbourn and Netherfield, the Bennets and famed Mr Darcy and sweet Mr Bingley and nefarious Mr Wickhan, is like drinking a comforting cup of tea. This is a wonderfully illustrated edition that I can imagine suits a mother-young daughter reading session perfectly. Barder might lose some of the witty repartees bursting in nearly all lines of Austen’s original dialogue, but she nevertheless captures a wonderful essence of Pride and Prejudice that is certain to excite hungry, young readers. I’d recommend this to parents for their early elementary school girls; it will be a perfect addition to their reading lists! -- Elizabeth * NetGalley *
This is a fun book that my fourth and fifth grade students would enjoy to read. I would it introduce it in hopes that they would read the entire classic when they are a bit older. The story of Pride and Prejudice, as adapted by Gemma Barder, is a quick and comprehensive read. It details the main components of the novel in a very likeable and readable way. I have also read Emma, by this author recently, and enjoyed it as well. I hope there are more editions to come! Thank you to Netgalley for this free ebook in exchange for an honest review. -- Linda * NetGalley *

Love reading children fiction. Its worth my 1 hour break time. Although I have not read the original or Modern edition. This book, is all I ever wanted. Its fine and readable. Love the simple story line. I fancy all pictures of Lizzie and her siblings. Its well-written. I am sure children will find this book lovable and attractive too. Firstly I would like to thank the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that I will always enjoy a "Pride and Prejudice" adaptation. Oh let's be honest, any Jane Austen adaptation. And this adaptation does not shine away from that truth. It is very comprehensible, simple, and enjoyable for, I would guess, kids from age 6+. It manages to maintain that charm that all Jane Austen's books have. And if in the future, I have any children of my own, I will most definitely read this adaptation, you know, to get them into the Jane Austen fan club. -- Flaka * NetGalley *

Thanks to NetGalley for an E Copy in exchange for an honest review Gemma Barder's adaptation of the beloved classic, Pride and Prejudice, is simply perfect! The illustrations are adorable and beautiful, the story is explained well and easily, and still manages to showcase the characters' unique and loveable traits. Lizzy is ever the perfect heroine with her wit, boldness, loyalty, and charm. Darcy is of course so mysterious and unlikeable at first until you really get to know the true, soft, endearing and caring side of him. This book had me smiling from ear to ear, as I loved revisiting this classic, passionate and beautiful tale. I believe this is a superb way to introduce children to classic literature, as the illustrations are beautiful, the story is told in a well paced manner, and one can easily fall under Austen's spell and see how pivotal her stories are, and forever will be. -- Natalie * NetGalley *
I love Jane Austen so I of course loved this book! An incredibly condensed version of Pride and Prejudice, this novel has sweet illustrations and gives the reader a good overview of Jane's most popular novel. If you have an older child, I wouldn't start them here. I think they could read Pride and Prejudice on their own. But this book is a nice start for younger kids and is a great gift for any Janeite! -- Kim * NetGalley *

All the illustrations, beginning with the cover were absolutely adorable. It's as if I was reading a fairytale set in England.. I thought this was a great adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for a younger audience. I loved the pictures. My girls (4 & 6) read a couple of chapters each night and the fact that they wanted to read the book and looked forward to it is a win for me. I look forward to reading more in this series. Many thanks to Net Galley and Sweet Cherry Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book. -- Tricia * NetGalley *
This book is perfect for children! The change in language from the original classic is so much more accessible to children and I would argue teens/adults too! A nice condensed version of this classic and the illustrations fit nicely. They also give a clear distinction between the sisters as they are tricky to keep track of otherwise! -- Mel @ * NetGalley *
5 stars This was such a delight to read. I adore Pride and Prejudice since I was very little and I wanted to share this with my niece who's 5 and loving books and it was such a nice read to do with her. It took us 3 days to finish but she absolutely loved it and that's what I wanted when I asked for this ARC. Thank you so much to the publisher and Netgalley for providing this ARC for an honest review. -- Mag * NetGalley *
This kiddie retelling of my favourite book is extremely short- 96 pages including tons of illustrations (there’s one at least on every page). The pace of narration is breathtakingly brisk- I felt like I was riding a bicycle with no brakes. You know, speeding along faster and faster to the inevitable crash. -- The Book * NetGalley *
I loved this book! I think that the decision to release some of the classics as children’s stories is brilliant. Even though it is shortened version of the full book I think it was an excellent tribute and it reminded me as an adult why I love the story so much. The book covers all the main parts of the story and it is a very enjoyable and likable adaptation. You get to see the personalities of Elizabeth and Mr Darcy and I hope that this will introduce them to these fabulous characters and encourage them to read the full version, and/or watch come of the TV and film adaptations. It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended and a great introduction to the world of Jane Austen – simply delightful! -- Donna * NetGalley *

This is absolutely wonderful. I wish I could give it ten stars! It is so true to the story, but makes it easy for a child to understand. It is a perfect introduction to a classic novel. Some adults would benefit from reading this first! I thought of Lamb's Tales from Shakespeare as I read it. There aren't enough words to express how valuable this is for teachers and parents who want their children to be introduced to and love classic literature. I hope there are more like this coming and not only for Jane Austen's books, but also for other classic authors. -- Libby * NetGalley *

The cover and illustrations are absolutely lovely. Pride and Prejudice is a literary masterpiece, and this edition for children did its best to capture the story's essence. It's fast-paced and the number of characters may be overwhelming at first, but I'm sure the children will close the book with a satisfied smile on their faces, absolutely in love with the story and its sweet, happy ending. -- Myka * NetGalley *

What an adorable version of my favorite classic! I know that classics are often intimidating for even adults, let alone children. This was the perfect short and condensed version of Pride and Prejudice. I loved that they left quite a bit of the same wording in the dialogue. I feel that this is always a good thing for children so that they are always expanding their knowledge and vocabulary. Similarly though, some may find some of the wording to be too much for a small child. I would recommend this book is best for 8+ year olds for this reason. The illustrations in the book were so cute! I thought the black and white sketches were simple and fun and fit the book very well. Highly impressed with this version and will definitely be buying a copy for my daughters collection! -- Alicia * NetGalley *

I have always loved this story and have wanted to share that love with my students. This book will do it. Many of my students struggle with the classics because of the language. It’s just not written in a way they can understand and so they put the books down. This book keeps with the story but tells it in a way easier for them to understand. My girls will love this! -- Dee * NetGalley *
I read P&P for the first time when I was still at school. And I didn't like it because the language was too old-fashioned for me. So when I saw this book, I will give it another try. I like it. It is much easier to understand, especially with cute illustrations. I recomm...
