The Starling's Song cover

A gorgeous, award-winning picture book about the beauty of small things and the healing power of nature

The blossom blowing in the wind, the snow-capped mountains, the coat of a roe deer...

From up in the air, everything looks so beautiful to the starling. He wants to sing about it to the world! But first he visits all the other birds, who each have something to add to his song.

This stunningly illustrated story reminds us of the endless beauty that can be found in the everyday, if only we look closely enough.

A sublime journey of discovery... This is a book about beauty and where to find it. I love this picture book... its big size and bold pictures, each of the beautiful messages of the birds, and how they are all remembered and valued by the starling. So gorgeous -- Sophie Anderson, author of The House With Chicken Legs
I really enjoyed The Starling's Song. There is something so great about the large format with those illustrations that drew me in. I got lost in the texture of the images and the rhythm of the words -- Coralie Bickford-Smith

As this little starling sings of his love of nature and of life, it's impossible not to fall in love with him, too. The text is lyrical and sweet, and the illustrations and design are gorgeous, with such clever moments: the birds on the endpapers, the peacock's wondrous tail and the mirroring on the kingfisher page. I loved it -- Alice Hemming, author of The Leaf Thief
This exquisite and unusual picture book marries lilting poetic text with stunning linocut illustrations... As evocative as the text is, the story truly comes into its own through the enchanting black and white linocuts with the only dash of colour being the starling's bright yellow beak and feet. The artwork is mesmerising and Wolters has captured the different birds so beautifully * Outside in World, Book of the Month *
A tale told through poetry overflowing with imagery and lyricism, this is a special book that champions the vitality of the natural world and the importance of our own humanity within it * Children's Books Ireland *

This book is great! I loved the first page with all the birds drawn together in black and white and I recognised quite a few different types of bird. The starling's song changed as he spoke to different birds and it made me think of nature and how special it is. In the end it all came together like a beautiful poem -- Ila, 5 Years Old * Books Up North *
A sublime journey of discovery... The linocuts prints are as beautiful as the sentiment behind the story. The most strikingly stylish picture book I've seen all year. One to treasure
