A really useful book that goes through more than just the basics of politics. Its focus is often on the UK and our style of politics, but there is also a lot in there about different countries around the world. The history of different political systems is looked at, and there are some great 'You can do it!' features as well, which encourage the reader to get involved with political activism. The tone isn't hectoring or judgey of political institutions, but it does a good job of looking at the pros and cons of different ways of politics and governance.

The style and presentation is bright and colourful. The information is presented in smallish chunks but doesn't talk down to the reader.

I'd recommend it for curious children (and perhaps to those of us adults who sometimes don't want to admit that we don't understand as much about politics as we pretend to!).

I read this book with my ten-year-old. Although the book is laid out in thematic chapters, he had the most fun flicking through the pages to tell me random facts! This book presents the types of government, political systems, elections and voting, change, and right, fairness and equality in a way that is accessible to end of primary/early secondary school students.
