′A delightful volume, with unique style and content. This new edition amply lives up to the authors′ aim of demonstrating a mode of CBT practice that incorporates many exciting developments whilst retaining the reassuring strength of the original parsimonious model.′

Peter Simpson, Senior Lecturer in Mental Health, University of Glamorgan
In their established guide to contemporary CBT theory and practice, the authors show how therapeutic change takes place across a network of cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning. They explain the central concepts of CBT and illustrate - with numerous case examples - how these can effectively be put into practice at each stage of the therapeutic process. They also explain how the essence of cutting edge ′third wave′ can be integrated into everyday clinical practice.
With two new chapters on mindfulness and increasing access to CBT, a wider coverage of client issues, extra case studies and learning resources, and a discussion of recent developments, this book continues to be the ideal companion for those working - or training to work - in the psychological therapies and mental health.
Frank Wills is an independent Cognitive Psychotherapist in Bristol and tutor at the University of Wales Newport.
Diana Sanders, Counselling Psychologist and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Psychotherapist in Independent Practice, Oxford.

this book provides student midwives with an introduction to the CBT. this is something that has increasing coverage and will be something that many patients will be experiencing. This book will enhance the student undersatnding and can only enhance the impact of care provision for the maternity services -- Dr Ellen Kitson-reynolds * drupal *

This is proving to be an essential book for early learners and practitioners of CBT. It is most useful as a lecturing aid and after ordering it is now in our library with students referring to it regularly. -- Dr Linda Blokland * drupal *
The addition of a section on CBT and IAPT is useful as many of our students work in an IAPT context. Also the emphasis on Third Wave CBT approaches is welcome as we do include these in yr 2 of our CBT course. Overall the book represents significant improvements to former titles by the same authors (e.g. CBT : An Intro). Material is very accessible and this is helped by use of good illustrative client examples. Would be good to see a section on critique/challenges to CBT and perhaps to include other Third Wave approaches such as Compassionate Mind Therapy -- Dr Toni Dicaccavo * drupal *
Frank Wills Essential reading -- Miss Maria Punt * drupal *
A very good book in an ever expanding sea of CBT text books -- Mr Armin Luthi * drupal *

I would recommend this introduction to CBT to any trainee, but especially those preparing to work in IAPT services. The chapters on the therapeutic realtionship and how to work with emotion in CBT are particularly helpful and well written, while avoiding becoming too technical or fuzzy! The use of case studies to illustrate how theoretical aspects of therapy translate into practice is particularly helpful. -- Mr Ken Jackson * drupal *

This book is a good academic resource for students and trainee counsellors. Linkinging theory to practise with clear jargon-free explanations, the authors enable the reader to get a true sense of how to use CBT to work with a wide range of client problems/difficulties. Clinical examples help further illustrate how to apply the various key concepts to achieve emotional and behavioural change.

An interesting book for use in therapeutic interventions session with students. A little advanced for 2nd year student nurses (which is the module i use it for), but very good for informing assignments and when in practice. Some students who have an interest in the topic area have really found it useful. I will continue to take it to the session for people to look through and make their own decision. -- Mrs Jackie Robertson * drupal *

A great book with useful tasks for trainees. -- Ms Stella Gkika * drupal *
The book is a very nice foundation for the introduction of CBT. However, the specific topic of my course is CBT in chronic pain. There are some hints to CBT in chronic pain in the book, but no detailed descriptions for this topic. Therefore, the book is recommanded for the first part of the course, but only supplementary for the detailed seminars for specific syndromes (i.e. fibromyalgia, migraine, chronic back pain etc.). -- Professor Thomas Weiss * drupal *
