Losing Eldorado

Losing Eldorado - ‘Searching for the Soul of America’ is the story of two brothers’ musical pilgrimage across the US in a 1982 Cadillac Eldorado, a love letter to American popular culture and the automobile.

This 72-page photographic book is the visual documentation of this quest.  All captured on 35mm film it is a postcard to a past age, that no longer exists.  

Evocative, haunting and captured in a time just after 9/11, when the old stars were still in the ascendancy, this visual story creates nostalgia for a period when the West still believed that liberal democracy and human rights would prevail. A time when analogue was the norm before the digital era swept away conventions, lifestyles and industries many thought would never end.

Central to the camera’s focus was the brother’s guardian angel on their trip, was Rufus their '82 Cadillac Eldorado, who can now be viewed as a glorious anachronism in a shifting landscape. A last remaining portal to the past away from the emerging digitally enhanced paradigm that engulfs the modern world.
