This is an End to End story without going to either Land's End or John O'Groats. It also begins in the middle, in north Wales. From Eryri (Snowdonia) Mike rides to Cape Wrath, the wild, wind-scoured headland at the end of north-western Britain, comes home, then travels south to Lizard Point in Cornwall and rides back home to Eryri, this time accompanied by his best friend, his wife Sally. Together they complete a journey that is less about conquering distance and more about inhabiting it.
Ridden as off-road as possible, this is a bikepacking adventure shaped less by haste and more by curiosity, fatigue and a healthy dislike of busy roads.
Self-described as 'not a very good bike rider,' and cheerfully ill-equipped for mechanical drama, the author sets out at 63 (and returns at 64) to pedal the length of the country.
There are no near-death epiphanies or soul-searching transformations. This is not a journey from darkness into light. It is something rarer: a joyful, eco-conscious exploration of Britain's tracks, trails, moors and mountains. It is about tired legs, slow climbs, cafes frequented, rural observations, small laments, shared laughter, and the quiet satisfaction of forward motion.
End to End: Lizard Point to Cape Wrath is a gently humorous, keenly observed travelogue of an off-road Britain - stitched together by nights under canvas and in hotels, by dehydrated food and pub grub, by singletracks, double tracks and fallen trees. It is about the simple pleasure of a 'nice bike ride' that just happens to run the length of a country.
