Culture and Styles of Academic Discourse

This volume present articles exploring communication patterns in research and academic settings in various linguistic and cultural environments. The authors, arguing for a humanizing approach to academic discourse, provide evidence against the traditional concept of objectivized, uniform and non-rhetorical language of science. Variation in text properties is elucidated in terms of user characterization and discussed with reference to community standards, intellectual traditions and cultural values.
