Nicolas Guagnini

A decade of ceramics with a conceptual approach by multi-media artist Nicolas Guagnini. Eight shows are throughly documented providing a chronological view of the development of the work. Additional exhibition components in dialogue with the ceramics include dance, typography and performance.

Using the oldest of materials, Guagnini’s assemblages of anatomical parts are presented in installations that explore themes of masculinity, our relationship to the antiquity and psychoanalysis. The ceramic work deploys custom developed glazes, decals, troupe l’oleic and a variety of technical innovations. Specific installation components, such as glass and tinted wood pedestals, wall texts, and interventions in the gallery floor with paper and coins further mobilize the ceramic work. An extensive interview with the artist by curator Matilde Guidelli Guidi further illuminates this complex web of relationships and themes.
