Masterpieces of Swiss Art from the Christoph Blocher CollectionOver recent decades, Silvia and Christoph Blocher have assembled one of the most important private collections of Swiss art, which is now being presented outside Switzerland for the first time. The exhibition, which features a selection of masterpieces from the collection, ranges from realism to symbolism and expressionism, showcasing works by Albert Anker, Ferdinand Hodler, Giovanni Segantini, Félix Vallotton, Giovanni and Augusto Giacometti, Cuno Amiet, and Adolf Dietrich.
Modern Switzerland, a multilingual federal democracy, established in 1848. Due to historical development, there were no royal art collections or formal art academies in the country, nor a national school of painting; therefore, Swiss artists from Hans Holbein the Younger to Ferdinand Hodler in the foremost centres of art – Paris, Munich and Vienna – studied and joining the international art scene. They gained fame in different artistic movements, yet there are similarities in their works: their common theme is the Swiss landscape and the everyday lives of the people who live there.
