"Though the story can easily be enjoyed on a superficial level, the subtly delivered message—that it’s perfectly fine when one’s sense of self doesn’t match one’s exterior—offers a meaningful parallel for readers and families who are dealing with or discussing gender identity.” ~Publishers Weekly
“Lacasa's simple story of love and acceptance steers clear of didacticism, well-served by Gómez's uncluttered pictures, which delightfully capture a range of animal emotions. Sweet and effective.” ~Kirkus Reviews

"It’s important to read picture books about being true to yourself so that as our kids grow, they feel comfortable being themselves. We want them to both know themselves as well as be proud of who they are. Seeing this in picture books can prompt that discussion and remind us to encourage our kids.” ― Imagination Soup
Many girls who enjoy traditionally masculine activities and boys who also break gender norms, will find solace in the characters of Fabio and Max. The illustrations accompanying this inclusive message are bright and welcoming. ~Kiss the Book
