China Inside and Out

This book is designed to introduce students to recent developments in China through the medium of brief essays on international and domestic affairs. In contrast with a monograph or introductory text on China, China Inside and Out offers Gurtov's expert analysis in each themed chapter, with an introduction to provide historical and contemporary context, and key primary source documents at the end of each chapter.

At this moment, Americans regard China as a major threat, both economically and strategically, while Chinese regard the US as determined to contain China and impede its development. Tensions between the two countries remain high: human rights, trade, Taiwan, the South China Sea, military budgets.
