John Britton (1771-1857) was a writer and editor and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He was a leading authority on topography in the early nineteenth century. Auguste Charles Pugin (1762-1832), father to the architect Augustus Welby Pugin, was a French emigre and architectural draughtsman.
