Bernard J. Paris is professor emeritus in the department of English at the University of Florida. His fields of interest include Victorian and comparative fiction and the psychological study of literature. He is author of numerous books including Rereading George Eliot; Imagined Human Beings; Character and Conflict in Jane Austen's Novels, and Karen Horney: A Psychoanalyst's Search for Self-Understanding. Theodore I. Rubin is a past president of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis and Karen Horney Institute of Psychoanalysis. He is the author of more than twenty-five books including Shrink, The Diary of a Psychiatrist and Compassion and Self Hate: An Alternative to Despair.
