Johnna Hite is an educator and certified speech language pathologist, employed by a Kentucky public school system. She has worked extensively with children and young adults in a variety of settings. Her research and experience have fortified her mission of helping parents and guardians communicate effectively with their children. Many children do not learn from observing, but need specific instruction and explanation of what is appropriate in social settings. She contends that utilizing children’s literature and specific individualized social stories as a means of approaching difficult discussions and furthering the discussion of appropriate behavior is key to their understanding. She combined her love of writing and her professional training to co-author a book designed to address worship service etiquette. Diane Reed is a certified teacher, administrator, and licensed professional counselor in Kentucky. Working with children has been her life’s passion, as evidenced in over 3 decades in teaching and mentoring children and young adults in the church and school settings. As a school counselor and private professional counselor, Mrs. Reed has counseled with individual and families in addressing various life hurdles and behavioral issues. Her years as a school district administrator helped her to realize the pervasive nature of social and behavioral issues facing families. Thus, she combined her love of writing and her professional training to co-author a book designed to address worship service etiquette. It is her contention that most children benefit from direct social skills instruction, and that opening this difficult discussion with an appropriate book is the ideal way to begin.
