E. Patrick Johnson is Carlos Montezuma Professor of Performance Studies and a professor of African American studies at Northwestern University, where he is the founder and director of the Black Arts Initiative. Sweet Tea: Black Gay Men of the South - An Oral History was published in 2008 and has won many awards, as have his books Black. Queer. Southern. Women. - An Oral History and Appropriating Blackness: Performance and the Politics of Authenticity. He is also the author of Honeypot: Black Southern Women Who Love Women and the editor or coeditor of several volumes, including No Tea, No Shade: New Writings in Black Queer Studies, Black Queer Studies: A Critical Anthology (with Mae G. Henderson), and solo/black/woman: scripts, interviews, and essays (with RamÓn H. Rivera-Servera, published by Northwestern University Press).
