Else Skjold is Associate Professor, PhD in design and sustainability at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. From her early work on wardrobe research, she has formulated principles on plural conceptions of fashion between the micro-structures of individual dress practice and larger, societal structures. Since this, she has used the interconnection between usership and fashion design practice as engine to drive multiple industry-led research projects for sustainable and circular transition. More recently, she has explored cultural heritage of design as resource for redeveloping textile literacy, thereby positioning the field of fashion design practice and design thinking as central in the debate on circular economy. In her role as scientific leader on textiles in the Danish mission for circular economy, TRACE, she has developed her research further into the field of mission governance and mission-based research, with the aim of restoring a circular infrastructure for textiles in Denmark and beyond.
