Jana Osterkamp is a historian and legal scholar with broad interests in modern European and legal history. At the University of Augsburg, she holds the Professorship for the History of Eastern Europe and Germany and directs the Bukovina Institute. Her publications include several authored and edited books on the Habsburg Monarchy, its successor states, and the history of state socialism. She earned her Ph.D. with distinction in legal history from Goethe University Frankfurt in 2007, followed by a Dr. habil. in modern and East European history at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich in 2019. She has held fellowships in Vienna and Prague, and her collaborative projects have received funding from both the German and Austrian Research Foundations. In addition, Osterkamp serves on several international academic boards.
