Jane Graham Illustrator & Author

My earliest writing success was a short story I wrote when I was eight, ‘Pussycat Cat Village’, read on Children’s Hour Radio in Kenya. Sometime after that I wrote a sad poem called ‘Hope’, which was published by the Northern Kenya Farmers Weekly who mistakenly attributed it to my father. By the time I embarked on my first novel I had written numerous travel and wildlife magazine articles, and some art reviews; I had taken a BA in Fine Art, an MA in Dance Studies and was drawn to working on multimedia productions, and exhibiting regularly. I published my first book in 1980 and I have published eight more, including an autobiography. Ideas for the others were drawn from my experiences of life and art. There are two small books of photographs only that cover my artwork and my first travels in India. I was born in England and always enjoy visiting family and friends there. I have led a peripatetic life, moving from one African country to another where I have been involved in wildlife development work: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Central African Republic, Zimbabwe, Botswana and also Papua New Guinea. I moved to Australia permanently in 2001. Nowadays, whenever possible I travel for one reason or another, and I have made a new stamping ground in Kashmir. Jane Graham
