DANIEL SHEALY is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He co-edited The Selected Letters of Louisa May Alcott and The Journals of Louisa May Alcott with Madeliene Stern and Joel Myerson.

MADELEINE B. STERN is a partner in Rostenberg and Stern Rare Books in New York City. Among the numerous books she has written or edited are The Life of Margaret Fuller (Greenwood Press, 1990), A Modern Mephistopheles and Taming a Tartar by Alcott (Praeger Publishers, 1987), and A Phrenological Dictionary of 19th-Century Americans (Greenwood, 1982).

JOEL MYERSON is the Carolina Research Professor of American Literature at the University of South Carolina, Columbia and editor of the annual, Studies in the American Renaissance. He has also edited numerous books on nineteenth- and twentieth-century literary figures, including Critical Essays of Henry David Thoreau's Walden, and The American Transcendentalists. He has also published articles in various literature journals.
