Julian S Huxley Author

Eminent biologist, philosopher, and educator Julian S. Huxley (1182-1975)—grandson of T.H. Huxley ("Darwin's bulldog") and brother of the novelist Aldous Huxley—was a pivotal figure in establishing the Modern Synthesis of neo-Darwinian evolutionary theort in the 1940s and the author of many books, including Evolution: The Modern Synthesis, Essays of a Biologist, The Science of Life, and, with Sir Gavin de Beer, Elements of Experimental Embryology. Fredrick B. Churchill is professor and chair of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University. Richard E. Strauss is associate professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University.
