Melanie Ramdarshan Bold is a children’s book lover, Jacqueline Wilson fangirl, and Professor of Youth Literature and Culture at the University of Glasgow. Her research explores how young people, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, engage with books and creative culture, with a focus on identity, self-expression, and social change. She has written five books and works closely with schools, publishers, and organisations like CLPE, BookTrust, and The Reading Agency to make children’s publishing more inclusive and inspiring. Whether teaching, researching, or chatting with young readers, Melanie is driven by one belief: every young person has a story worth telling.
