Alexandros Arsalis is a Research Fellow at the Research Centre for Sustainable Energy (FOSS). His Ph.D. study was supported with a fully-funded Ph.D. Fellowship from Aalborg University and the Danish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Academy, and was completed in collaboration with the industry (Danfoss & Dantherm Power). After his studies, he worked as a Postdoctoral RA at Aalborg University. He has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers in scientific Journals and Conference Proceedings and participated in several funded research projects. Fanourios Kourougianni earned his MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Energy Engineering, from the National Technical University of Athens in 2022. Since February 2023, Dr. Kourougianni has been contributing his expertise as a researcher at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy, within the University of Cyprus. Focused on green hydrogen-related topics, his work aims to advance the understanding and implementation of this promising energy carrier for a greener future. Dr Andreas V. Olympios is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the ONISILOS MSCA programme for experienced researchers, based at the University of Cyprus. He is working closely with the Clean Energy Processes (CEP) Laboratory of the Department of Chemical Engineering of Imperial College London, where he completed his PhD in 2022. His PhD work was part of the Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet Doctoral Training Partnership at the Grantham Institute of Climate Change and the Environment. His research interests include the design and operational optimisation of low-carbon heating technologies, the identification of energy-system implications of heat and electricity decarbonisation; and modelling of large-scale thermo-mechanical (e.g., pumped-thermal) electricity storage technologies. Before joining Imperial College London, Andreas obtained an MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham, where he was recognised as the best student of the course. He is an affiliate member of IMechE, from which he received the Institution Best Student and Frederic Barnes Waldron Awards in 2018. Dr. Charalampos Konstantinou, earned his PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2020. His academic journey includes an MSc from Imperial College London and an MEng from the National Technical University of Athens. With 16 journal papers and a patent to his name, he's a recognized expert in engineering. As an editorial board member of Biogeotechnics, his insights shape the field. His research spans fluid flow, microbially induced carbonate precipitation, and statistical analysis, among others, addressing environmental challenges like carbon dioxide sequestration. Dr. Konstantinou's multidisciplinary approach drives innovation, inspiring future generations in engineering. Georgios Yiasoumas, an expert in engineering, focuses on sustainable energy solutions. With an MEng from the National Technical University of Athens and an MSc from the University of Strathclyde, he's deeply committed to renewable energy. Since April 2022, Georgios has been a Research Associate at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy, University of Cyprus, where he advances photovoltaic technology. His dedication to research and innovation aims for a greener future powered by clean technologies. Panos Papanastasiou is Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus. Ηe served as the founding Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2002-2008 and the founding director of the Program of Architecture from 2004-2006. He served also as Dean of the Engineering School from 2009-2014. He is also the founding director of the Program Master in Natural Gas Engineering. He is member of the academic council and research partner of the International Water Research Center (Nireas) and of FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy. He received his first degree in Civil Engineering from the NTU of Athens in 1984 and his M.Sc in 1986 and Ph.D in 1990 in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He worked more than 15 years in the Oil & Gas industry in the Research Center of Schlumberger in Cambridge, England from 1991 to 2002 and as consultant to Schlumberger in U.K. and Russia from 2002-2007. From 2011-2017 was Advisor to the Government of Cyprus on Hydrocarbon exploration and development and gas monetization options. From 2019 is a member of the board of directors of Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company (CHC). He has published more than 85 articles in scientific journals, more than 110 articles in conference proceedings and book chapters, he organized 5 international conferences and edited 6 conference proceedings and books. He invented 3 patents and wrote more than 50 industrial reports in the field of Petroleum Engineering. He is Editor-in Chief of journal Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment (Elsevier), Associate Editor for the journal Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (Springer) and editorial advisor for the International Journal of Geomechanics (ASCE) and Petroleum Science (Springer Open). He is in the Stanford University list that identified the top 2% of scientists worldwide in the areas of Geosciences, Energy, Engineering. Prof. Dr. PV Aravind is the Professor and Chair of Energy Conversion, University of Groningen. He did his MSc thesis research in the Section ET (TU Delft) on the topic “Generation of Electricity and Heat using Biomass Gasification, Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) and Micro Turbines” and received his MSc. from University of Oldenburg, Germany. He then continued his PhD work at the same section (TU Delft) on the same topic. Later he defended his PhD thesis titled “High efficiency energy systems based on biomass gasifiers, SOFCs with Ni/GDC anodes and gas turbines” at TU Delft. Since then, he has been involved in the supervision of research activities related to the development of fuel cell systems with a special focus on Gasifier-SOFC integrated systems. He runs a laboratory for hydrogen and fuel cell systems and supervises several PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. He teaches courses on hydrogen, fuel cell systems and thermodynamics of energy conversion. Professor Soteris Kalogirou obtained his PhD and DSc from the University of Glamorgan, UK. For more than 30 years, he has been actively involved in research of solar energy and in flat plate and concentrating collectors, solar water heating, solar steam generating systems, desalination, photovoltaics and absorption cooling in particular. He has many books and book contributions and has published large number papers in international scientific journals and refereed conference proceedings. He is Editor-in-Chief of Renewable Energy and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Energy, as well as Editorial Board Member of another eleven journals. He is the author of the book Solar Energy Engineering: Processes and Systems and Thermal Solar Desalination, both published by Academic Press of Elsevier. He has been a member of World Renewable Energy Network (WREN), American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Institute of Refrigeration (IoR) and International Solar Energy Society (ISES). George E. Georghiou is a Professor and the Director of FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy, University of Cyprus. Prior to this, he was a Lecturer and the undergraduate course leader in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southampton, and a Research Fellow at the Electricity Utilization Group, University of Cambridge. Having graduated from the University of Cambridge with a BA, MEng, MA all with distinction and a PhD, Dr Georghiou continued his work at the University of Cambridge in the capacity of a Research Fellow (1999-2002). Prof. Georghiou is currently a member of the CENELEC and IEC committees on PV and is acting as an expert evaluator for Horizon 2020 energy proposals as well as being a member of CIGRE and the European Solar Energy Industrial Initiative. He also represents Cyprus on the SET plan steering committee. Prof. Georghiou has published over 400 papers in international journals and conference proceedings and his team has obtained research funding in excess of 18 million Euros from bodies such as the European Union, Industry (such as Honeywell, Q Cells etc), the National Funding Agency etc. Amongst his scholarly achievements, are six outstanding paper awards for the most significant technical scientific contributions and an innovation prize.
