Paul Fogel Author

Paul Fogel is the President of Executive Information Systems, Inc. The firm produces a financial reporting and forecasting system for hospitals and offers services in productivity improvement, benchmarking, operations analysis, feasibility studies, and business planning. Mr. Fogel offers a unique perspective gained from working in more than 70 hospitals.

Among his published works are the article “Superior Productivity in Healthcare Organizations” for the Journal of the International Society for Performance Improvement, plus “Achieving Superior Productivity” in the HFMA newsletter, “Five Tactics for Productivity Management” and “Benchmarking: A Process, Not a Number” in Managing the Margin, and an interview on nursing productivity for the HFMA publication The Business of Caring.

Mr. Fogel presents seminars on “Constructing Financial Forecasting Models” and “Benchmarking Institutional Performance” for the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

After earning an M.B.A., Mr. Fogel began work as a financial analyst with several commercial and savings banks and later moved on to venture capital, and then to hospitals as Manager of Strategic Business Analysis, reporting to the CFO. In 1995, he joined MECON, Inc., a national benchmarking and consulting firm to the healthcare industry (now known as Truven, Inc.). As senior manager, he educated, trained, and consulted with more than 40 hospitals, including the United States Army. Becoming self-employed in 1997, Mr. Fogel engaged in extensive long-term work with a Seattle hospital as a productivity and benchmarking consultant, where he wrote the first edition of Superior Productivity in Healthcare Organizations: How to Get It, How to Keep It. His company also produces and sells forecasting systems for hospitals and clinics.
