Suzan Alteri Editor & Author

Rebekah Fitzsimmons is an Associate Teaching Professor of Professional Communication in the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. She teaches core communication courses focused on public speaking, professional writing and data communication. Her pedagogical approach focuses on innovative use of digital technologies in the classroom, as well as helping experts translate and transmit technical knowledge to non-experts through storytelling and multimodal communication. Dr. Fitzsimmons is the co-editor of the collection Beyond the Blockbusters: Themes and Trends in Contemporary YA (2020). She has published articles in Children’s Literature, Lion and the Unicorn, the Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy and the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts. Her work also appears in the edited collections The Early Reader in Children’s Literature and Culture and the Prizing Children’s Literature Collection. She has served on the Executive Board of the Children’s Literature Association as well as chaired the Planning Committee for 2026 Pittsburgh and the Membership Committee. She currently serves as chair of the Conference Advisory Committee.

Suzan Alteri (MLIS) is the Assistant Director of the Center for Children’s Books at the School of Information Sciences, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. Previously she was Curator of the Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature at the University of Florida and of the Arne Nixon Center at Fresno State University. She teaches courses related to special collections, diversity in youth literature and literacy, and archival pedagogy and research. She has offered workshops to professors and instructors related to various Digital Humanities programs, including WordPress, Timeline JS, and Omeka and their uses in the classroom. Alteri edited a collection of essays titled B is for Baldwin: An Alphabet Journey Through the Baldwin Library and has published articles in the #DLFTeach Toolkit 3, Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy, Digital Humanities Quarterly, Education Libraries, Digital Defoe, and Archival Issues. She has served on a variety of committees for the American Library Association and the Children’s Literature Association.
