We're thrilled to welcome Jesse Armstrong to Portobello Town Hall for an event to celebrate the publication of Succession Season Four: The Complete Scripts. Jesse Armstrong is the writer and creator of the hugely successful TV drama Succession, as well as co-creator of cult TV classics Peep Show and Fresh Meat with his longtime collaborator Sam Bain. Armstrong will be in conversation with writer and journalist Kirstin Innes.

This in-person event will take place at Portobello Town Hall. There will be a book signing following the conversation. Please note that the signing is only for copies of the Succession Script Books.

In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the day of the event against a single copy of any season (1-4) of the Succession Script Books – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per book.

Jesse Armstrong Author

Jesse Armstrong is an Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning TV and film writer. In 2016 it was announced HBO had commissioned a 10 part series of his media family drama Succession. The pilot was directed by Adam McKay. In the UK he co-created, co-executive produced and co-wrote 9 seasons of Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning comedy Peep Show. He also co-wrote the BAFTA-winning The Thick of It and the Academy Award nominated script for the film In The Loop; the terrorism comedy Four Lions and British Comedy Award-winning comedy drama Fresh Meat. Jesse was born and educated in Oswestry, Shropshire, and attended Manchester University where he studied American Studies as an undergraduate and American History for his Masters, after which he worked as a researcher for a Member of Parliament. Working as a solo writer, Jesse wrote The Entire History of You for Black Mirror and the final episode of the first season of HBO’s Veep. In 2016 Jonathan Cape published his novel set against the background of the Bosnian War, Love Sex and Other Foreign Policy Goals. The New York Times said ‘Armstrong proves to be just as maniacally funny here as he is on the screen.’

Kirstin Innes Chair

Kirstin Innes is a writer based in the west of Scotland. Her latest novel, Scabby Queen, published by 4th Estate, was nominated for the Gordon Burn Prize and Scottish Novel of the Year, and is being adapted as a feature film by Moonage Pictures. Her debut, Fishnet, won The Guardian’s Not The Booker prize in 2015 and is being adapted for television by STV. Her first non-fiction book, Brickwork: A Biography of The Arches, an oral history of the legendary Glasgow venue co-authored with David Bratchpiece, was published in 2021 and shortlisted for UK Theatre Book of the Year. Kirstin is currently writing a screenplay, a musical, and finishing her third novel, The Book of Risk.
