Cook Book: Plot to Plate at The Portobello Bookshop

Free tickets available via the Portobello Book Festival website.

Join us in welcoming Art Walk Projects to the bookshop to kickstart this year's Portobello Book Festival with an event to celebrate their latest publication, Cook Book: Plot to Plate – the result of their collaboration with artists Felicity Bristow, Susie Wilson and Craigentinny Telferton Allotments. The book, which has evolved through a continuing friendship with the working group who volunteer at the allotments, has been designed to share recipes that are about place, people and a community.

The wonderful Portobello Book Festival takes place from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th October 2023. We're so delighted to be hosting the opening event for the festival and to be the official participating bookshop.

About Cook Book: Plot to Plate:
This 140-page spiral bound book with unique wraparound cover, records and celebrates 100 years of a community creating, maintaining and improving a vibrant allotment site on the edge of the city of Edinburgh, near the coast in Portobello.

Illustrative drawings created during community workshops held at the allotment site, developed working with artists Felicity Bristow and Susie Wilson, are interspersed throughout the publication, as well as recipes from allotment plotholders, interviews, and quotations from historical minute books from 1923 when the site was first established.

This Plot to Plate Cook Book has evolved through a continuing friendship with the working group who volunteer at the allotments. The value of this natural and productive community space is immense to the plot holders, not only for producing food but for providing a peaceful and natural space for reflection, play, learning and enjoying nature amongst a generous and diverse community. The book is for everyone, to share recipes that are about place, people and a community.
