Extra Teeth: Issue Seven Launch at The Portobello Bookshop

Extra Teeth are back with a brand new issue packed full of brilliant writing from some of Scotland's finest writers, both emerging and established, and we're hosting the launch event! Join us this Independent Bookshop Week for an evening of readings from contributors to the magazine: Len Lukowski, Josephine Jay and Eilidh Akilade.

This event will take place in the bookshop with an in-person audience, as well as a livestream for attendees watching from home.

In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the night of the event against a single copy of Issue Seven of Extra Teeth – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per magazine. Livestream vouchers are valid until the day after the event and can be redeemed on our website against a single copy of Issue Seven of Extra Teeth.

Wines will be provided by Smith and Gertrude, and non-alcoholic options will be available.

Participants:

Len Lukowski Author

is a writer and performer living in Glasgow. He writes short stories, poetry, fiction, memoir and lyrics. His writing has appeared in Wasafiri, Magma, New Writing Scotland and The Huffington Post. His debut pamphlet The Bare Thing is published by Broken Sleep Books. He has played in several queer punk bands.

Josephine Jay Author

is a freelance artist and writer and 1/3 of the Whatever Next? adoption project, co-founded in 2021. They published their inkling, On Adult Adoptive Identities, earlier this year and has written for The Sunday Times Magazine, Scotland Magazine, gal-dem and The Skinny.

Eilidh Akilade Author

is a writer based in Glasgow. She is Intersections Editor at The Skinny and her writing can be found in publications such as gal-dem and Dazed, amongst others. In 2022, she was awarded PPA’s Scotland Young Journalist of the Year Award. She currently also works within arts and literature.

Wheelchair Access

We have a ramp at the front of the shop which has a ratio of 1:10 and loading capacity of 300kg, and so should be able to be used by most wheelchair users or those with mobility vehicles. The front doors are fully automated. Our shop interior is designed to allow access throughout for wheelchair users and prams, though please note there is only 700mm wide clearance to access the staff toilet.

Sound

We use a PA system to enhance the audio at our live events. We also have a hearing loop system installed, if you’d like to use our loop system during an event please let us know and we’ll make sure we have it set up and connected to the live audio feed during the event. If you wish to attend an event and require BSL interpretation, please give us a few weeks notice and we’ll do our best to arrange an interpreter.
