Extra Teeth: Issue Ten Launch at The Portobello Bookshop

Extra Teeth are back with a brand new issue packed full of brilliant writing from some of Scotland's finest writers, both emerging and established, and we're hosting the launch event! Join us for an evening of readings from contributors to the magazine: Charlotte Haley, Sadie Maskery and Monica S. Park.

This event will take place in the bookshop with an in-person audience, as well as a livestream for attendees watching from home.

In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the night of the event against a single copy of Issue Ten – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per magazine. Livestream vouchers are valid until the day after the event and can be redeemed on our website against a single copy of Issue Ten.

Featuring some of Scotland’s best emerging and established writers, and work from exciting new writers from further afield, Issue Ten of Extra Teeth showcases features genre-defying fiction and nonfiction, all captured in its strange and brilliant glory by illustrator Natasha Russell.

Charlotte Haley Author

Charlotte Haley is a writer from Sunderland. Her short story ‘Case Study: Godwit-737’ was longlisted for the Brick Lane Bookshop Short Story Prize in 2025. She was shortlisted for the Ignite Fellowship award by the Scottish Books Trust in 2025. Her work examines monstrousness, fear and Nature. She lives in Edinburgh with her partner, works in the charity sector and practices Shotokan karate. She is represented by Francesca Riccardi of Kate Nash Literary Agency and working on her debut novel.

Monica S. Park Author

Monica S. Park is a writer and consultant based in Edinburgh. She is also a trained classicist, with postgraduate degrees from Harvard University and UC Berkeley. Born and raised in Northern California as part of the Korean diaspora, she is currently working on a short story collection about the Asian American experience set in California, as well as a set of personal essays about female ambivalence.

Sadie Maskery Author

Sadie Maskery lives in Scotland by the sea. Her first collection of short stories, Overboard, comes out with Acid Bath Publishing later this year. Her latest poetry collection,  The Usual Apologies, can be found via Red Ogre Press.

Wheelchair Access

We have a ramp at the front of the shop which has a ratio of 1:10 and loading capacity of 300kg, and so should be able to be used by most wheelchair users or those with mobility vehicles. The front doors are fully automated. Our shop interior is designed to allow access throughout for wheelchair users and prams, though please note there is only 700mm wide clearance to access the staff toilet.

Sound

We use a PA system to enhance the audio at our live events. We also have a hearing loop system installed, if you’d like to use our loop system during an event please let us know and we’ll make sure we have it set up and connected to the live audio feed during the event. If you wish to attend an event and require BSL interpretation, please give us a few weeks notice and we’ll do our best to arrange an interpreter.
