For more than fifteen years, Gutter magazine has published and promoted the very best writing from Scotland and beyond. Each issue contains a wealth of fabulous work, from new poets to prize-winning novelists.
We’re delighted to be hosting the launch of Issue 33 of the magazine here in the bookshop, with readings from contributors Ali Millar, Billy Letford, Lindsay Johnstone and Dawn Wood.
We'll also have Gutter’s managing editor Malachy Tallack and prose reviews editor Rebecca Smith on hosting duties.
This event will take place in the bookshop with an in-person audience, as well as a livestream for attendees watching from home.
In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the night of the event against a single copy of Gutter Issue 33 – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per book. Livestream vouchers are valid until the day after the event and can be redeemed on our website against a single copy of Gutter Issue 33.

Participants:
Ali Millar Author
Born in Scotland and now living in London, Ali Millar is an author and journalist. Her debut memoir, The Last Days, was released by Penguin Random House to widespread critical acclaim in 2022. Ava Anna Ada is her debut novel.
William Letford Author
William Letford was born in Stirling. He has received an Mlitt from Glasgow University, an Edwin Morgan Travel Bursary from the Arts Trust of Scotland, a New Writers' Award from the Scottish Book Trust, and a Creative Scotland Artists' Bursary which allowed him to spend 6 months travelling through India. His work has been published in New Poetries V and Bevel (Carcanet, 2012) which was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney First Collection Prize.
Lindsay Johnstone Author
Lindsay Johnstone is a writer, critic, and expressive writing facilitator. An extract from her memoir-in-progress won the John Byrne Prize.
Dawn Wood Author
Dawn Wood has published four collections with Templar Poetry. She works as a tutor in postgraduate medical education, and as hypnotherapist.
Malachy Tallack Chair
Malachy Tallack is one of the most exciting and critically acclaimed writers to emerge from Scotland in the past decade, and has won praise from Robert Macfarlane, Bernard MacLaverty, Sara Baume, Madeleine Bunting, Will Self and John Burnside, among others. He was shortlisted for the Saltire First Book Award for 60 Degrees North; The Un-Discovered Islands was named Illustrated Book of the Year at the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards 2016; and The Valley at the Centre of the World was shortlisted for the Highland Book Prize and longlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize.
Rebecca Smith Chair
Rebecca Smith is the author of two other novels, The Bluebird Cafe and Happy Birthday and All That. Born in London, she lives in Southampton.

Wheelchair Access
We have a ramp at the front of the shop which has a ratio of 1:10 and loading capacity of 300kg, and so should be able to be used by most wheelchair users or those with mobility vehicles. The front doors are fully automated. Our shop interior is designed to allow access throughout for wheelchair users and prams, though please note there is only 700mm wide clearance to access the staff toilet.
Sound
We use a PA system to enhance the audio at our live events. We also have a hearing loop system installed, if you’d like to use our loop system during an event please let us know and we’ll make sure we have it set up and connected to the live audio feed during the event. If you wish to attend an event and require BSL interpretation, please give us a few weeks notice and we’ll do our best to arrange an interpreter.
