Indigo Dyeing Winter Workshop at The Portobello Bookshop

As the nights darken and the cold closes in, this is the time of year to gather together over warm beverages and community to create something special.

We're delighted that Jeanette and Ellie Orrell will be visiting the bookshop this winter to lead an indigo dyeing workshop! Attendees will have the opportunity to dye a furoshiki, a traditional Japanese wrapping cloth, as well as receive a complimentary Portobello Masterclass notebook and pencil. We'll also have copies of Ellie's memoir, An Indigo Summer, on hand for purchase with a special 10% discount.

Please note that due to the hands-on approach to this workshop, spaces are limited.

Jeanette Orrell is an artist based in mid-Wales, her practice is rooted in drawing and uses indigo to resist dye botanical images onto wool and linen. She also runs an online shop, where she sells antique clothing and handmade indigo items for everyday use. Her daughter, Ellie Evelyn Orrell, is the author of the book An Indigo Summer – a memoir that documents the process of learning to indigo dye in their Welsh hillside garden. They have been running indigo workshops together since 2018.

We're so excited to welcome Jeanette and Ellie for what will be an intimate and inspiring evening. We can't wait to see you all - we'll have cups of tea and coffee available alongside mince pies!

Please note: Tickets for our events are non-refundable. Professional photography and videography may take place during this event. Thank you for your understanding.
