Kapka Kassabova - Anima: A Wild Pastoral at The Portobello Bookshop

We're delighted that Kapka Kassbova will join us in the bookshop for an event to celebrate the paperback publication of her latest book, Anima: A Wild Pastoral. Over the course of one summer, Kapka Kassabova lives with perhaps the last true pastoralists in Europe in what the Guardian have named as 'a book that mesmerises with its sense of adventure and epic sweep, this is creative non-fiction at its best'. Kassabova will be in conversation with writer and academic Roxani Krystalli.

This event will take place in the bookshop with an in-person audience, as well as a livestream for attendees watching from home. There will be a signing after the event.

In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the night of the event against a single copy of Anima – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per book. Livestream vouchers are valid until the day after the event and can be redeemed on our website against a single copy of Anima.

About Anima:

Over the course of one summer, Kapka Kassabova lives with perhaps the last true pastoralists in Europe.

She joins the epic seasonal movement of vast herds of sheep, along with shepherds and dogs, to find pasture in the mountains. As she becomes attuned to the sacrifices inherent in this isolated existence, Kassabova finds herself drawn deeper into the tangled relationships at the heart of this small community.

Anima is a spellbinding portrayal of the human–animal interdependence in pastoral life, and a plea for a different way of living – one where we might all begin to heal our broken relationship with the natural world.

Please note: Tickets for our events are non-refundable. Professional photography and videography may take place during this event. Thank you for your understanding.
