Scottish Narratives Panel at The Portobello Bookshop

We're excited to be hosting a Scottish Narratives Panel event as part of our Independent Bookshop Week celebrations. We'll be joined by debut authors Juano Diaz (Slum Boy, Brazen Books), Margaret McDonald (Glasgow Boys, Faber) and Tom Newlands (Only Here, Only Now, Phoenix).

It's great to have Vikki Reilly from Publishing Scotland on board to lead a discussion about the importance of telling working-class stories, writing across genre, as well as reflecting upon how the work of each of these writers fits into the canon at large.

This event will take place in the bookshop with an in-person audience, as well as a livestream for attendees watching from home. There will be a signing after the event.

In-person vouchers can be redeemed on the night of the event against a single copy of one of the featured books – we will have a list of attendees with vouchers to be redeemed. Please note that only one voucher can be redeemed per book. Livestream vouchers are valid until the day after the event and can be redeemed on the website against a single copy of the featured books.

Vikki Reilly Chair

Vikki Reilly has worked in bookselling and publishing for twenty years. She was struck down by Beatlemania, thanks to her best friend's big brother's record collection and a C-90 cassette, when she was thirteen years old and hasn't been the same since. As a student, she got a job in Virgin Megastore by discussing Ringo Starr's backward fills, and – later in life – only managed the last fifteen miles of the West Highland Way by singing the Beatles back catalogue in chronological order. This is her first book.
