Around Neath cover

This fascinating book takes a look at the town of Neath from Briton Ferry to the Vale of Neath. The pictures show the streets, people, communities and industries of the historic town of Neath, as well as its more agricultural side. Many of the photographs are taken from the authors' collections, acquired over many years, with the help of numerous local inhabitants.

The book traces the past through the ordinary people of Neath as well as its more well known characters such as Joseph Tregelles Price. A philanthropist and Quaker, this man was well known for his conscience about the working classes and fought hard for a reprieve for the martyr Dic Penderyn.

Another local worthy was Joseph Edward Moore- Gwyn, who amongst other accolades was present at the first meeting of the committee of Glamorgan Cricket Club which was convened in the Angel Inn, Cardiff in July 1888.

This book provides an album of evocative pictures for older inhabitants, who will remember some of the scenes, and younger ones, for whom it will provide a lasting record of a past age.

The authors are noted local historians; Stephen Absalom publishes a community magazine and Robert King is a newspaper columnist.
