These reforms quickly acquired a momentum of their own, as Moscow’s dominion over Eastern Europe and then the Soviet Union itself was washed away. Statesmen, diplomats, soldiers, journalists and others in both the East and West scrambled to chart a new course amidst the uncertainty and opportunity. Endgame is the story of these final years of the Cold War, through the eyes of those involved in bringing its end. Weaving together their dramatic stories of statesmanship and subterfuge, and the choices made under pressure and uncertainty. Drawing out how each player felt about the momentous events in which they found themselves, Endgame constructs these dramatic final days from first-hand memoirs, diaries, documentary and archive material to bring the events of this period to life.
