I Drove My Bed to Grandma’s House

Lex doesn’t want to fall asleep — he wants an adventure!

Lex’s mom tells him to stay in bed during naptime, but she didn’t say anything about staying in his room. With Rabbit, Moose, Red Fox, and other animal friends, Lex decides to drive his bed through the wilderness on a rollicking adventure to Grandma’s house.

Lexington Samuel Forrester does not like naps. His mom, however, must really like them, because she makes him have a nap every single day. Even if Lex stays awake, he has to stay in bed. That’s the rule.

Mom didn’t say anything about staying in his room, though…

So Lex decides to drive his bed to Grandma’s house. Grandma never makes him nap; she usually makes him cookies! Joined by a motley collection of forest friends, including a bossy rabbit and two rambunctious chipmunks, Lex sets off on a journey through the wilderness with many unexpected detours. After almost getting lost, being pulled over for traffic violation, and even temporarily losing control of his bed, Lex arrives at Grandma’s feeling rather tired and, well, sleepy. So sleepy that he might just need a nap.

Carolyn Huizinga Mills’s imaginative story, paired with Jan Dolby’s playful illustrations, is a rollicking naptime adventure.
