Every day of every year, the Earth spins on its axis and orbits the sun. In winter, our part of the earth is tilted away from the sun. The temperatures get colder and the days get shorter. All living things rely on the sun for food. As food gets scarce, nature slows down. Some plants and flowers die, but their seeds will survive. Others store sap in their roots, so that they can come to life when the sun returns. Animals hibernate or migrate. As the Earth continues its journey, the days start getting longer and warmer. Plants and seeds begin to wake up and gradually the animals that rely on them return.
