Two baby boys are born at the same time but into wildly different lives. Jim’s farming family is rough and ready, while Duncan’s upbringing is as privileged as a prince. They have one thing in common: their blistering athletic talent which draws them together to compete for honours in the cut-throat world of elite sports.

Both Jim and Duncan will have to face identical challenges: how to develop their world-beating inborn talents while also navigating the expectations of families who want more than they can give.

One of them will eventually triumph in the ultimate race for success. Along the way, they will each deal with failure and adulation, disappointment and celebration, joy and grief, as they discover that the difference between victory and defeat is wafer-thin
