September 1942. Twenty-year-old factory girl Susan Lawrence can hardly believe it when she successfully auditions for ENSA, the organisation that provides entertainment for the troops. But as The Forces Follies are posted to the wilds of Scotland, facing tough crowds of tired soldiers and dealing with the attentions of men long deprived of female company, life proves to be far from the glamorous showbusiness world Susan had imagined. When a handsome crooner Jack Forster joins the troupe, Susan is initially exasperated by his laid- back attitude but gradually starts to absorb a little of Jack's carefree attitude, the pair quickly growing closer. But Susan soon discovers that Jack is hiding a devastating secret and is faced with an impossible dilemma reveal the truth, or protect the man she loves?
