Valentien + Valentien

Landscape architecture and urban planning practice Valentien + Valentien is one of the first from Germany to have been continuously present on the ground in China. Freiräume / Open Spaces in China 1998–2022 provides a comprehensive overview of 24 years of experience in local projects, offering valuable insights into the architects’ unique design philosophy and approach.

The first section of the book is devoted to “Parks and Gardens,” exploring five major landscape architecture projects with pride of place going to the visionary design for the spacious Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai. The second section is dedicated to “Urban Development and Regional Planning” and presents six large-scale master plans, planning examples that illustrate the firm’s methodology when navigating the complexities of rapid urban change.
